Card Colm's Slides (Card Tricks Learned from Persi, John & Ron)
In the mid 90s, I had the great fortune to be introduced to some very impressive mathematical card tricks, first by Persi Diaconis (Oct 1994, at UGA), and then by John H. Conway (Apr 1995, at Spelman). It wasn't until the end of the 90s that my own interest in mathemagic suddenly deepened considerably. Later still, I saw Ron Graham wow the masses with a deck of cards.
Persi & Ron's wonderful book Magical Mathematics features full treatments of the tricks most commonly associated with them, and some of that material is covered briefly in my own book Mathematical Card Magic. The latter also includes the rudimemts of the trick learnt from Conway at Spelman. My long running MAA Card Colm also has much related material.
Below are the slides from two presentations on these effects which were shared in breakout rooms at Recreational mathematics virtual Happy Hours hosted by MAA's SIGMAA program in May and Sep 2020.
